Dora Wells Twiford , wife of Sam
A. Twiford, Sr., worked side by side with her husband building Twiford Funeral
Homes. She was a RN prior to marrying Sam. She is a licensed
Funeral Director in North Carolina. Dora is the mother of Sam Jr. and
David Sr. She continues to work daily and still resides in Elizabeth
City. Mrs. Twiford, along with her two sons, continue to own and operate
Twiford Funeral Homes.
Sam
A. Twiford, Jr., the son of Sam A. Twiford, Sr. and Dora Wells Twiford, is a
partner in Twiford Funeral Homes. Sam is married to Claudia Chappell
Twiford and has two sons: Sam A. Twiford, III and Jacob S. Twiford.
Sam is a graduate of East Carolina University and Cincinnati College of Mortuary
Science. A former Dean of Students and Instructor at Gupton-Jones College
of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, GA, Sam has been in funeral service most of his
life. He has served on various committees in state and national funeral
service organizations, including having been President of the North Carolina
Funeral Directors Association. Sam is a Mason, a member of the Shrine, and
a member of First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City, NC. He often
serves as a facilitator/presenter at hospice training & in-service
workshops, clergy presentations, and funeral service functions. Some of
his other interests include computers, golf, family and reading.
David
H. Twiford, Sr., a native of Elizabeth City, NC, is a partner of Twiford
Funeral Homes and cemeteries. He and his wife, Darlene Jones Twiford, have three children,
David H. Twiford, Jr., John Joseph “J. J.” Twiford, and Whitney Louise
Twiford Waddington; and two granddaughters: Ragen Twiford & Callie Twiford. He is a 1965 graduate of
Elizabeth City High School, a graduate of Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science,
and served six years in the Naval Air Reserves. He is a member of the North Carolina and the National Funeral
Director’s Associations. He is a
Mason, Shriner, Red Man, Elk; a member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church and Pine
Lakes Country Club. He is a former
member and past chairman of the North Carolina Board of Mortuary Science and the
North Carolina Crematory Authority. His
interests include, golf, traveling, and family.
Darlene
Jones Twiford, a native of Elizabeth City, NC, is a Funeral Director and has
been with the firm since 1985. She
and her husband, David H. Twiford, Sr., have three children, David H. Twiford,
Jr., John Joseph “J. J.” Twiford, and Whitney Louise Twiford Waddington; and two
granddaughters: Ragen Twiford and Callie Twiford.
She is a 1968 graduate of Central High School and attended College of the
Albemarle. She is a member of the North Carolina Funeral Director’s
Association, and Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church.
Her interests are spending time with her family and traveling.
Sam A. Twiford, III, the son of Sam A. Twiford, Jr. is the
manager of Twiford Funeral Home in Chesapeake, VA. Sam III is married to
Jodi Manning Twiford and have two daughters, Rachel Lynne Twiford and Julia Marie
Twiford. Sam is a
graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati College of
Mortuary Science. Upon completing his studies in Cincinnati, Sam moved
to Manteo to work with Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo & Hatteras.
When the position to manage the Colonial Chapel in Chesapeake became available,
Sam was offered the opportunity to move to Virginia. He accepted and has
dedicated himself to the growth of the Colonial Chapel. His hard work and
dedication to the families served by the Colonial Chapel is evident to all who
work with him. His goal for growth of the Colonial Chapel, while serving
every family beyond their expectation, is quickly being realized. Sam,
Jodi, Rachel and Julia are truly a part of the community where they serve and reside.

David
H. Twiford, Jr., a native of Elizabeth City, NC, is the manager of the
Twiford Funeral Homes in Manteo and Hatteras, NC.
He is married to Cara Daniels Twiford, and they have a daughter, Ragen
Whitney Twiford, and a son, Spencer Linwood Twiford.
He is a 1992 graduate of Northeastern High School, attended NC State
University, and has an Associate of Arts in Mortuary Science from John Tyler
Community College in Chester, VA. He
is a member of the North Carolina Funeral Director’s Association, Ramoth
Gilead Baptist Church and the Improved Order of Red Men.
His interests include golf and family. David Jr. is living in
Manteo. This is special since his great grandfather, S.W. Twiford was a
native of Dare County, having been born in Stumpy Point. David Jr. is the
only Twiford associated with Twiford Funeral Homes that resides in Dare County
where his great grandfather once managed the Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo.
John
Joseph “J. J.” Twiford, a native of Elizabeth City, NC, is a funeral service
licensee and has been full-time with the firm since 1998.
He is married to Karen Mudra Twiford, and they have a daughter, Callie
Elizabeth Twiford and a son, John Wells Twiford.
He is a 1994 graduate of Northeastern High School and has an Associate of
Arts in Mortuary Science from John Tyler Community College in Chester, VA.
He is a member of the North Carolina Funeral Director’s Association,
Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church and the Improved Order of Red Men.

Jake S.
Twiford is the son of Sam A. Twiford, Jr. and Claudia Chappell Twiford.
Jake was raised in Dare County, having graduated from Manteo High School in
1995. Upon graduation from Manteo High
School, Jake attended Fork Union Military Institute. After
graduation from Fork Union, Jake enrolled at East Carolina University where he
received a B.A. degree in Communications. Upon leaving Greenville, NC,
Jake returned as a full time employee of
Twiford Funeral Home. In 2000, Jake moved to Elizabeth City and is
currently working with his father in Virginia.
